On behalf of the Conference planning team, we are pleased to announce that the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) will be hosting the Community Over Code Asia 2025 event July 25-27, 2025, in Beijing, China. Community Over Code is the annual convention of the ASF, and this Asia-focused event will provide an opportunity for the dynamic open-source community in Asia to gather in person, share knowledge, and showcase content from many of the ASF’s project communities.
The Call for Proposals is open until April 21, 2025.
For over 26 years, the ASF has played a crucial role in the global open-source ecosystem, with its 350+ open-source and community-driven projects powering the Internet and driving technological innovation. However, as the name “Community Over Code” suggests, it’s not just the code that makes the ASF unique—it’s the people behind the projects. This event celebrates individuals who innovate, collaborate, and contribute every day to advancing technology and serving the public good.
Since its inception, Community Over Code Asia has become one of the most significant open-source events in the region, reflecting the best of ASF projects and communities, and continuing to advance open-source development and community practices.
- 2021: To better serve the rapidly growing Apache users and contributors in the Asia-Pacific region, we held our first online conference tailored to the Asia-Pacific time zones.
- 2022: The influence of the conference grew further, with 215 speakers delivering 210 talks to attendees. The online format allowed us to break geographical boundaries. Over the course of three days, the conference attracted more than 90,000 views.
- 2023: For the first time, we held an in-person Community Over Code Asia conference. Over 160 speakers from around the world, hundreds of developers who made significant contributions to projects, and community leaders who had a profound impact on open source development gathered in Beijing to discuss the future of open source.
- 2024: Community Over Code Asia arrived at the beautiful West Lake in Hangzhou, where Apache Local Communities from five different cities in China came together. The diversity of the Asia conference was further enhanced, with 187 speakers from across the globe and even more volunteers from different countries, creating a vibrant and dynamic event.
In 2025, we will continue our Community Over Code journey to Beijing Zhongguancun, a place rich in a culture of creativity. Community Over Code Asia will feature sessions on topics such as Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Community Building, and more. Through keynote speeches, hands-on sessions, and case studies, we will showcase ASF projects, emerging innovations, and practical applications.
